Winter

As Winter seeps in through the windowsill
Her ghostly grip is chilling to the bone
And overnight, the world is frozen still
With icicles formed by her breath alone

Remembrance of a warm summer’s embrace
Is tainted by the bitter cold we know
The withered leaves have fallen from their grace
And frozen rivers soon will cease to flow

The vibrant shades of color turn to grey
Cold beauty marks the end of autumn’s reign,
Shatters the fragile joy of yesterday
And leaves only its skeletal remains.

Just one brush of her frosted fingertips
Leaves nothing in the wake of happiness.
