Workin' the 9 to 5

“Workin’ the 9 to 5”
Every hot summer day from nine to five

Johnny goes to work on the beach
Riding his bike
He wants his own truck
It’s rough, so rough

Anna works in the sun all day
Working on her tan
Soaking up the rays
For cash, for cash

She says, “We’ve gotta work hard for what we want.
It doesn’t make a difference if we get burnt or not.
We’ve got each other and that’s a lot.
For cash, we’ll work a whole lot.”

[Chorus:]
Whoa, smell the salty air
Whoa, pick up that beach chair
Take my shift and I’ll switch- I swear
Whoa, no that’s not fair

Johnny’s gotta run down the block
He’s gotta take the Schwinn
He’s already on the clock
It’s rough, so rough

Anna wants to leave work today
She waits by the stairs
Johnny hollers,
“Gina, I’m here, it’s okay…

“We’ve gotta work hard for what we want.
It doesn’t make a difference if we get burnt or not.
We’ve got each other and that’s a lot.
For cash, we’ll work a whole lot.”

[Chorus:]
Whoa, smell the salty air
Whoa, pick up that beach chair
Take my shift and I’ll switch- I swear
Whoa, no that’s not fair

Smell the salty air

We’ve gotta work hard all day and night
You live for the cash when it’s all that you want

[Chorus:]
Whoa, smell the salty air
Whoa, pick up that beach chair
Take my shift and I’ll switch- I swear
Whoa, no that’s not fair

[Chorus:]
Whoa, smell the salty air
Whoa, pick up that beach chair
Take my shift and I’ll switch- I swear
Whoa, no that’s not fair
