My Friends

I can't breathe

Your fingers cover my eyes, and you laugh so gleefully

I can't breathe

You're standing on my chest like an elephant, you see

I can't breathe

When you're here right next to me

I can't breathe

It's like I'm stuck onto the bottom of the sea

I can't see

Your little words just washing over me

I can't see

I've been through act one and two, now it's time for three

I can't see

I'm like a kid just climbing up this tree

I can't see

It's strange that you count 7, 10, 3

Ever since you've been around
I can't seem to pick myself off the ground
I'm simply trapped in this fantasy
Because you are imaginary

I'm fine with imaginary
If you don't exists you can't hurt me
I'm glad you'll always be my friend
You just stick around until my end

My friends aren't friends
In the traditional sense
They are just my friends
That you can't sense

I can't hear

Will you whisper all your secrets in my ear?

I can't hear

Have you gone away? I fear

I can't hear

Just like a shiny crystal it is clear

I can't hear

I'm making silly faces in the mirror

I can't taste

They say that friendships like this are a waste

I can't taste

We'll have some fun with googly eyes and paste

I can't taste

With promises your words are laced

I can't taste

I swear one day we'll meet face-to-face

Ever since you've been around
I can't seem to pick myself off the ground
I'm simply trapped in this fantasy
Because you are imaginary

My friends aren't friends
In the traditional sense
They are just my friends
That you can't sense

I can't taste

I can't hear

I can't see

I can't breathe

My friends aren't friends
In the traditional sense
They are just my friends
That you can't sense

I can't breathe

I can't see

I can't hear

I can't taste

I can't breathe

The author's comments:

Imaginary friends are the best friends you can have. They will never hurt you. In some ways, imaginary friends are better than the real ones.
