(Don't) Tell Me

Tell me you're okay,
Tell me you're doing fine now.
Tell me I can breathe today,
Tell me I'll forget you somehow...
Warm sheets, the smell of your perfume on my pillowcase,
Old texts, pictures from long ago come up of your face.
Do you remember me like I remember you?
Back before I was replaced with someone new.
Cherry chapstick, the taste of your lip gloss,
As you felt my kiss and all your clothes slipped off.
But that was the past, I should stop living in there,
Because every time you said you loved me, you really didn't care.
What happened, you said I could be your friend?
Or was that a lie like your love, just all pretend?
I gotta move on, I keep telling myself that,
But whenever I try I simply get pulled back.
And you got another man, he buys you chocolate and flowers,
But what pisses me off the most is that he takes you to places that are ours.
He needs to find his own thing, he's a copy you see,
He may be good, but babe, he'll never be me.
Tell me you're okay,
Tell me you're doing fine now.
Tell me I can breathe today,
Tell me I'll forget you somehow.
Tell me he treats you right,
Tell me he's the perfect dream.
But if you're in love with him tonight,
Don't tell me...
I think it's time I delete these memories out of my head,
Clearing up some space 'cause to you they're already dead.
Gotta erase your number out of my phone,
Like you erased me from your heart because that's what I'll never own.
Do your parents know about all the times you snuck me over?
One more time wouldn't hurt, just so I could get some closure.
You'll never acknowledge all these feelings that I feel,
All along you were playing fake while I was being real.
I made a mistake the day I wrote down your name,
'Cause you're body's getting love while mine is experiencing pain.
Was I worth it, did I mean anything at all?
It's sad when you're in tears because that's the only time you call.
You were a flame and I was the oxygen to make you ignite,
But the fire went dim until we were left with no light.
I suppose I'm doing okay, that I'm just simply fine,
'Cause the only thing keeping me at bay is this bottle of red wine.
Tell me you're okay,
Tell me you're doing fine now.
Tell me I can breathe today,
Tell me I'll forget you somehow.
Tell me he treats you right,
Tell me he's the perfect dream.
But if you're in love with him tonight,
Don't tell me...
I'm writing you this song but it'll never get read;
'Cause my words are transparent when it comes to your head.
And everything you do makes me pop like a kernel,
Got me staying up at night, I'm switching nocturnal.
Does it ever cross your mind of what we could have been?
If we just restarted and tried again?
I don't think I could , I'm caught up in resentment,
I'm sick to my stomach seeing you with my replacement.
I had another girl but she wasn't worth it,
Played it like she was you, but it's not what I wanted.
We could have been Troy and Gabriella from High School Musical,
But you gave up on that fairy tale, I guess that's cool.
You gotta go your own way, I completely understand,
I hope for your sake he's truley the one to put that ring on your hand.
'Cause if I had it my way it would already be done,
In my head that is, 'cause my heart knows I'm not the one...
Tell me you're okay,
Tell me you're doing fine now.
Tell me I can breathe today,
Tell me I'll forget you somehow.
Tell me he treats you right,
Tell me he's the perfect dream.
But if you're in love with him tonight,
I'm begging you please, please, please, don't tell me...
