She sat on those steps everyday

Waiting for him to come back home after work

He was never late

Until that one day

He never came

And those steps were never empty

At 5:30 at night

That girl never stopped waiting

She just kept holing on

To the hope and belief

That her daddy would come

And meet her there

On those steps

Little girl six years old

Wondering where her daddy is

And why he's not comming home

He mom tried to explain it

But she didn'y believe

Cause her daddy was bigger than

Everything

And those steps were never empty

At 5:30 at night

That girl never stopped waiting

She just kept holing on

To the hope and belief

That her daddy would come

And meet her there

On those steps

Prom night she sits down

Starts to talk about

Her boyfriend her dress

How nervous she is

And how she's so happy

He taught her to dance

And how she wishes he were there

To see her off

Those steps were never empty

At 5:30 at night

That girl never stopped waiting

She just kept holing on

To the hope and belief

That her daddy would come

And meet her there

On those steps

That little girl is all grown up now

About to leave the house now

And those steps

She sits down

5:29 it's about time now

And she realizes

That those steps are gonna be empty now

Every time 5:30 comes around

So she sits there and waits

One last time

Tells her daddy that she never gave up hope

That he would come back home

And meet here there

On those steps
