It's only awkward if you make it awkward.

I feel you watching me getting dressed in the mirror,
Looking for new bruises and new scars.
I watch you flinch when you see the scrapes I covered up.
I know you smile when you help me button my jeans,
Even though you know the kind of trouble that it means.
I see you watch me as I stand atop the stairs, too afraid to fall down,
And I know you wonder who will catch me when you’re not around.
I feel you look after me as I walk the hall,
As if distance will not matter; you’ll still catch me when I fall.
I know that loving me is harder than it seems.
I know you always worry, even in your dreams.

We don’t have a lot of room to make mistakes.
We walk a tight rope with no give or take.
I know you think I’m fragile.
I know that loving me is hard and scary,
But I have one thing to say.

You don’t have to be sure.
You don’t have to be strong.
You just have to keep singing the words to your own song.
You don’t have to give in.
You don’t have to run away.
Baby, all you ever have to do is stay.
All I’ll ever ask you is to stay.

When you hold me tight, I know you’re trying to keep me safe.
I know that when we’re apart, you cannot concentrate.
I feel you get wake up at night two or three times
And check me over with your flashlight
To make sure everything’s alright.
Everyone else sees our showers together in a romantic way,
But in our relationship they’re more about safety.
I watch you as you always hold your breath,
And sometimes, I wonder if I kiss you hard enough
If I could breathe it back in.

I love you more than you could ever know.
I know loving me is much harder than you show.
I try to tell you thank you in the way our bodies intertwine,
But in case you cannot feel it,
I have one thing to say.

You don’t have to be sure.
You don’t have to be strong.
You just have to keep singing the words to your own song.
You don’t have to give in.
You don’t have to run away.
Baby, all you ever have to do is stay.
All I’ll ever ask you is to stay.

I know that you feel guilty when I’m on my own.
I know that you can’t carry this all on your own.
I know you cry when I’m supposed to be asleep.
I know that you are trying to never it let it show,
But I love you so much that I always want to know.
You don’t have to be sure.
You don’t have to be strong.
You just have to keep singing the words to your own song.
You don’t have to give in.
You don’t have to run away.
Baby, all you ever have to do is stay.
All I’ll ever ask you is to stay.

I know that I am dangerous,
But you love me still.
Seizures are like chains.
The closer you are,
The more they hurt.
And I promise you, no matter what,
I love you anyway.
I always want in my heart for you to stay.

The author's comments:

I wrote this song about the fear and hurt that comes from loving someone with seizures. I have an uncontrolled seizure disorder, and I have learned that seizures effect everyone onvolved. This is my song to my future love about how hard it is, but how much I love the poeple who are there for me in return
