"What ever happened to Romance? Sappy, soppy, longhand love letters..."

She cries at night
She tries to smile
She says its love
It’s all she knows.

She used to laugh
She used to dance
She only lies
It’s all she can do…

CHORUS

He says its love,
He says to her:
“Don’t do these things to me.”
She starts to cry
She tells herself:
“God knows I’ll escape some time!”

She’s gotten pale
She’s got real thing,
Her family worries;
“It’s no big deal.

She hides the pain
She hides the bruise
He comes home drunk
She hides that night…

CHORUS

He says its love,
He says to her:
“Don’t do these things to me.”
She starts to cry
She tells herself:
“God knows I’ll escape some time!”

BRIDGE

Her heart is pounding in her ears
She’s running from all she’s ever known
She puts her life in her own hands,
It’s a danger and he’s after her…

Here lies the girl she was,
Now she will never find a way
He’s locked up far away
And her family will always know…

CHORUS

He says its love
He says to her:
“Don’t do these things to me!”
She starts to cry
She tells herself:
“God knows I’ll escape some time

He said its love…
He said to her:
“Don’t do these things to me!”
She used to cry…
She told herself:
“God knows I’ll escape this time…”

For my Humanities class we were studying protest songs and then had to write our own. This song is mine. It is protesting Abuse. As you can see it is about a girl who is abused by her boyfriend.
