Basement Angel

In the corner of a basement room
A candle’s holding back the gloom
Just a little glow that keeps his soul alive
And in the corner of his mind he knows
He can’t let the little fire grow
Lest someone should look in and see the light

Little angel in the basement
Doesn’t know what freedom is
His wings are too small right now to fly
But one day he’ll leave his nest
And soar into the world
He will finally release his inner cry
The basement angel, dancing in the sky

Paint some sunshine on the wall
Should he give up or give it all
Or just wait and hope he’ll make it out someday
Oh, the candle’s getting brighter
And his heart is getting lighter
But does he have the strength to take the harder way

Little angel in the basement
Doesn’t know what freedom is
His wings are too small right now to fly
But one day he’ll leave his nest
And soar into the world
He will finally release his inner cry
The basement angel, dancing in the sky
