"Don't Panic." - The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

The way it was since days old,
Since then men fought,
And war stories were told.

For vengeance, valor, honor and glory,
And so begins the Great War story.
A fight for fortune, freedom, peace and love,
They fought their way to Valhalla above.

Samurais for honor,
Spartans for glory,
Knights for valor,
All to tell a story.

With their powerful cries,
Charging across a field,
Taught never to surrender,
Never to yield.

Until they are buried upon the hill,
They will fight and die,
At a commander’s will.

For the greatest victory a warrior can achieve,
Is glorious death in battle you can believe.
Even for those who fought in trenches,
Under gunfire that blurs their senses.
Still a victory they shall make,
Though their lives the battle may take.

Bullets, blades, shields and spears,
The tools of the warrior who fights his fears.
Whether a conqueror for fortune, or a maker of peace.
To the glory of battle, none are lease.

The thunder of guns,
The steady burst of snow,
The heat of the sun,
Or the patter of the rain, a soldier is ready.

And they say to us,
At the end of the story,
Remember our greatness,
Remember our glory.

Not in tears,
Not this way,
But a Great War,
Remember that day.

The author's comments:
I wrote it because I was tired of people remembering the heroes of war as fallen dead and not properly remembering them as glorious warriors.
