I'm Fine

Those words sound so foreign spilling out of my mouth.
I tried to hold my tongue, but they just kept pouring out.
I spit out the lies,
Hide behind my worn-out alibis.

Your eyes lock with mine,
Both filled with that deceit we’ve perfected through time.

He’s the king of ok,
I’m the queen of fine.
Our castle with the foundation of lies is tumbling,
The barricades are crumbling,
But we’ll smile and look away,
Because I’m fine, and you’re ok.

I say, “Don’t worry, babe, about a thing.”
As I stare at that cheap promise ring.
We live in a magical, tragic place.
Smiles aglow on our second face.

With both afraid to tell the truth,
It’s far too easy to drown in the fountain of youth.

He’s the king of ok,
I’m the queen of fine.
Our castle with the foundation of lies is tumbling,
The barricades are crumbling,
But we’ll smile and look away,
Because I’m fine, and you’re ok.

We’ll never be able to see through the mask to our minds,
Because someone told us that love was blind.
We can’t see the light at the end,
And we’ll keep falling down the rabbit hole.
Even with the dim light dying,
We’ll keep losing, misusing, and lying,

We’ll smile and look away,
Because I’m fine, and you’re ok.

I love the lines "He's the king of ok/ I'm the queen of fine". I feel that way sometimes too. I like the emotion in it. It's relatable. And the imagery is simple but easy to visualize.

I like this poem alot because it describes the teenage realtionship perfectly. I love the whole concept the king and queen empire falling that eventually mirrors that the realtionship is falling between the two people but both are unwilling to face teh reality. Fine job.

GOSH. This was just so great. I don't even really know where to start. Your rhythm, your wordssssss, your EVERYTHING were just awesome, and my favorite line was "He's the king of ok,/I'm the queen of fine." I think more people should read this, it's really good. And I can't really describe as well as I want to about what I liked about this, but it was just..beautiful, in a dark sort of way. 5/5 stars :) Keep writing!

I would totally love to have this on my iPod. I really like the "king of ok, queen of fine" idea, but my absolute favorite lines are "We'll never be able to see through the mask to our minds, // Because someone told us that love was blind." Seriously, that's awesome stuff.
