"We loved with a love that was more than love" ~Edgar Allan Poe

{Verse 1}
That Friday night
I came home from school
I walked into the room
And then I just knew
From the silence
There was something not right
My mom whispered 'I love you'
And held on to me tight
{Chorus}
She said, '26 lives were taken today
Innocent, beautiful children
And there was no reason
Oh, God, tell me why?
26 lives...'
{Verse 2}
She remembers that day, so clear in her brain
She got a phone call in the middle of work
She couldn't believe it was her child he took
Those tears run down her face & her heart brakes
Because her baby won't be coming home, tonight...
{Chorus}
She said, '26 lives were taken today
My innocent, beautiful baby
And there was no reason
Oh, God, tell me why?
26 lives...'
{Verse 3}
She heard the gunshots
Come from the other room
She said, 'hush children
come with me, hide in the cabinets, you'll be safe here.
I'll be right back'
And that was the moment he appeared
She saved their lives, while he took hers,
And now everyone's watching the news
{Chorus}
While the reporter says, '26 lives were taken today
Innocent, beautiful children
And there is no reason
Oh, God, Tell me why?
26 lives...'

That Friday night,
I came home from school
I walked into the room
And then I just knew...

This was a song I wrote about the children & teachers that were killed in a school shooting in Connecticut on December 14, 2012.
