I Hope Your Heart's Still Home

Growing up can be exciting,
But there’s an ugly side.
Gotta say goodbye to Mom and Dad
And go on with your life.
Now leaving can be scary,
But I have come to find
It is so much worse to be
The one who’s left behind.

You’re packing your bags
And you’re leaving, you’re leaving,
And I’m sitting here
Disbelieving, believing.
The boy who I gave my heart to,
It’s time for him to start to
Be on his own.
But even when you’re gone,
I hope your heart’s still home.

I think of all the laughs we shared
As you walk out the door.
I love the way you teased me.
You were a friend but so much more.
My heart goes in your suitcase
And I wish you could unpack.
I hope you’re happy where you go
But I’ll be here when you get back.

You’re packing your bags
And you’re leaving, you’re leaving,
And I’m sitting here
Disbelieving, believing.
The boy who I gave my heart to,
It’s time for him to start to
Be on his own.
But even when you’re gone,
I hope your heart’s still home.

Expect my letters.
It would be better
If we could stay together,
But I know it’s right.
Your future’s bright,
But I’m forever fettered
To you.
Till you come back, I’m locking my heart;
Throwing away the key.
Home is where the heart is
And I hope your heart’s with me.

You’re packing your bags
And you’re leaving, you’re leaving,
And I’m sitting here
Disbelieving, believing.
The boy who I gave my heart to,
It’s time for him to start to
Be on his own.
But even when you’re gone,
I hope your heart’s still home.
If you get tired of wherever you are,
Jump into your bright red car
And drive right on back to me.
But even if you stay away,
I hope you remember me.
Please remember me.
When you’re done,
Follow your heart back home.
