Another Round

By
Somedays I lay awake and wish I could fly away
back to a better time of no worries and no tears.
Sometimes I wonder why wonder why I even try
it all kinda adds up to nothing in the end.

My father’s wedding tie has never looked so gray.
Reminds me of the color seeping from his eyes.
looking back at photo stories black and white movies,
hard to think that folks like that could ever go wrong.

But i’ll still fall on my knees begging for you to please
give each other just a second chance.
I promise it wont kill you but it might hurt me
to watch this steeple tumble to the ground.
I just want you to be together another round.

The days get shorter as the nights grow longer.
Seems like the darkness has made its way inside.
I’m fighting this war as a one woman soldier,
but even my strongest forces begin to fall.

My momma’s wedding dress never really did exist.
I’m starting to find more things like that.
Everything they never told me ‘cause it was just too early.
The sweet ignorance of childhood fades away.

But i’ll still fall on my knees begging for you to please
give each other just a second chance.
I promise it wont kill you but it might hurt me
to watch this steeple tumble to the ground.
I just want you to be together another round.
I pray this is love that you have found.
