See What I See

February 23, 2012

I can’t sleep,

I can’t dream,

I can’t smile genuinely

And I can’t look to the Night’s sky

Without wondering

If you’re seeing what I see.

All those hopes,

All those dreams,

Burned like the stars

And the promises you made to me.

Verse One:

Your Laugh.

Your Eyes.

Every moment I had with you,

Stuck on repeat in my mind.

I can almost feel your arms

Wrapped around me,

Holding tight.

I can almost feel your heart beat,

Pulling me closer;

Whispering “It’s gonna be alright.”

But darling,

Verse Two:

It’s not your fault,

It was me.

I built my life around you

Like a fortress by the sea;

So wonderful, so perfect.

But then a storm took you from me.

Now I wander the ruins,

Wide-eyed, hopeless,

Verse Three:

When I see you,

Tides rush in;

Fogging my senses.

I wonder what could have been.

But sweetheart, as long as you’re happy;

That’s all I need.

I just have to realize

That your life won’t include me.

I really…

My heart, my world, lying broken at your feet…
