Romancend

It’s been ten years and we’ve had both funny and sad:
The rose that you never picked for me,
Oh, it’s still growing by the tree that we were too lazy to climb.

Tell me, it’s ok, tell me that everything will be,
And I just might believe you this time around.
Come to see me, but forget to say hi;
I promise I can pretend I didn’t even notice.

“What’s in that box?,” you ask
And I say, “I don’t know just like you didn’t know who gave you that tie.”
It’s a nice tie, now, don’t get me wrong.
I never got you wrong, so please do return just one favor.

I cannot believe; I do not want to care.
I never really cared since my sixteenth.
Now I’m not so sure if there will even be a sixteen between us.

Tell me, it’s ok, tell me that everything will be,
And I just might believe you this time around.
Come to see me, but forget to say hi;
I promise I can pretend I didn’t even notice.

You say you moved on, but you’re still at my doorstep
No, it’s not a sign of desperation from you,
But you should know, you’re not getting any pity from me.
I wish not to see you; can you please respect my want just this one time?

Tell me, it’s ok, tell me that everything will be,
And I just might believe you this time around.
Come to see me, but forget to say hi;
I promise I can pretend I didn’t even notice.
