That One Second

Everybody says its okay
Everybody does it everyday
Everybody risks their life away
Not realizing, one day they may have to pay

I look back on it now
And can only think why
Why did I let it happen
Now I sit back and sigh

Holding my head
In the hospital bed
All I can do is say the situation was led

By my own hand
I am my own killer, my own pain
Hurting oneself does sound insane

But it happens everyday
When we text rapidly text away
On our phone not knowing this word may be the last we say

All it took was that one second to turn my life around
All it took was that one second in which my heart stopped to pound
All it took was that one second for me to look away
And now my wounds hold me prisoner and I no longer have anything to say

I can claim. It was fate
Not my fault. But too late
Because the truth. Will not change for me
The past. Signifies clearly

It was my fault for turning away
It was my fault for daring to say
A word on the phone when the car fled by
Yet I dared, I dared to try

I dared to try to compromise
My life and now look…oh surprise!
I cant walk, I cant reach, I can barely feel
How did my vivid life get so unreal

I can’t take it back, it was a mistake
It was a horrid situation, which did break
My body, my mind, and my heart
This mistake is now a part

Of me because I see it does not take long
For something that seems right to become wrong
A moment of distraction is a moment that may
Be the moment to regret for the rest of your life every day

All it took was that one second to turn my life around
All it took was that one second in which my heart stopped to pound
All it took was that one second for me to look away
And now my wounds hold me prisoner and I no longer have anything to say

Looking back now, I must advise
For anyone who is slightly wise
To see the truth and what the truth may do
The truth is that distractions can end up killing you

Please don’t be the one to make the big mistake
For your own and everyone else’s sake
Keep your eyes on the road,
not on the phone or somewhere they shouldn’t be
If your eyes look away at something else it may be the last thing they see

Life is not long and we cant decrease
It’s length so crudely.. so please
Try to understand what it means to be in charge of your fate
It is not bad luck but the decisions you make

I made a bad decision and I had to pay
As I look at my broken bones that lay
In tape because of no one else but me
It is a clear fact to see

That it takes but a preventable moment to lose it all
Do not get distracted and fall
From the path of focus responsibility because it is all in your hands
Keep everyone safe and listen to your head’s command

Because

All it took was that one second to turn my life around
All it took was that one second in which my heart stopped to pound
All it took was that one second for me to look away
And now my wounds hold me prisoner and I no longer have anything to say

So many teenagers make small mistakes that can end up hurting them so this a word of caution from me to other teens :)
