Between the lines

we tiptoe around like we're walking on shells
these polite conversations the worst kind of hell
there's an ever growing between what we say and what we mean
and all that we feel gets caught in between

I don't know how to make this right
all I know is I can't sleep at night
I can't seem to fix what we broke
can't seem to put words to the feelings you invoke

the distance between us stretches to miles
while we parade around with fake pageantry smiles
our intimacy is dissipating fast
and I don't know what to say that'll make this last

I don't know how to make this right
oh i guess i could apologize
all I know is I can't sleep at night
without you in arms
I can't seem to fix what we broke
our lives and our hearts
can't seem to put words to the feelings you invoke
don't go

we spit out cold words that damage more than flame
and drown our possibilities under stinking heaps of blame
I miss the you and I that we used to be
Instead of a team we move as separate entities

I don't know how to make this right
all I dream about is your eyes
all I know is I can't sleep at
night
without laying in your arms
I can't seem to fix what we broke
everything that ever matter oh
can't seem to put words to the feelings you invoke
don't go
