Journies

The taste of lemonade in the summer
The friends that we lost but the ones we’ll remember
The report cards we burned and the daybreak we turned into midnight again
The kisses we stole when our parents weren’t looking
The things that we found even though we weren’t searching
The wisdom we lost but the courage we gained it all cost a price; it wasn’t in vain

So we pretend to be somebody’s girlfriend, and we start believing everything that we worship
The lies that we fake and the memories we make always come back around

The things we did, the things we hid, the things we never had the guts to do
The deals that we made, the things we gave, and how we always had something to prove
The stories we told were getting quite old but we listened and told them to friends the next day
The end point don’t matter, as long as the journey was worth it, along the way

The thickness of heartbreak roaming the air
The ones that we loved and the ones that cared
The days in September we think of whenever we’re feeling alone
The secrets we told when we promised we wouldn’t
The lectures we forgot as soon as we could’ve
The days we spent wondering, the hours ticked by, the clock seemed so slow and we wondered why

We pretend to be somebody’s girlfriend, and why we believe everything that we worship
Why the lies that we fake and the memories we make always come back around

The things we did, the things we hid, the things we never had the guts to do
The deals that we made, the things we gave, and how we always had something to prove
The stories we told were getting quite old but we listened and told them to friends the next day
The end point don’t matter, as long as the journey was worth it, along the way

We forget who we are, we forget all our past
We forget where we came from, we forget how to ask
For help, oh for direction, for guidance, oh when we need it

And the things we did, the things we hid, the things we’ll never have the guts to do
The deals we made, the things we gave, and how we’ll never have enough to prove
That the stories we told were getting quite old but we listened and thought them through the next day
The end point we’re at wouldn’t matter if the journey it took wasn’t worth it, along the way
(Oh, along the way, we forgive, oh along the way, we forget, along the way, we learn)

The feel of tears as we reach the destination
We’re finally here but we wish that we weren’t yet
The innocence we kissed, the child that we miss, the adults we are now
