The crowd rises for a song.
The band plays their last hoorah.
The cheers come from the silent steps we take.
The lights are bright as the words are spilt.
The faces arrived to hear the tones of our voices.

Blank stares there with a crackling sound,
and here comes the tears falling down
onto the paper crowns we've made;
the paper crowns we've made since we were 4 years old.
Oh

it has been a good run.
The times and memories kept up like stars in the sky.
Oh, why cant i just say what it meant
when we turned our backs, when we made more than tracks in the dirt?
Hear the silence, the love, the grief

as blank stares blend with a crackling sound.
Here come the tears falling down onto
the paper crowns we've made.
Oh, the paper crowns we've made since we were 4 years old
oh

Graduates, my friends, my fellows,
hasn't it been good? Yeah, hasn't it been good?
Whether you agree or not, we have learned to be who we are.
We have learned to move on, with or without scars, and the
lessons are more than just simple words

because since we were young we have been taught to make paper crowns.
To just learn to laugh a lot through the messes we've made in our past days.
We are moving on.
We're moving on. Oh, thank God we live
with the blank stares behind us and the tears all dried
with paper crowns beside us as we stride into the fresh sunrise.

The author's comments:
This piece is in reflection of all the issues, drama, fun times, and memories made over the years up to this point. It is a portrait of a contemplative graduates mind as they set out to enter the world for the first time. Since I am a senior I often am thoughtful about life and what is in store after this brief year, and in order to arrange my thoughts I figured it best to write a song about it, and this is the result.
