Swept Away

[First Verse]
So many questions
And not enough answers
Got any suggestions?
‘Cause I ain’t got a clue

So many choices
But how can I think straight
With all of these voices?
There’s not much I can do

But then I remember…

[Chorus]
It’s not me it’s You
Without You what can I do?
So I get on my knees and pray
And my confusion is swept away

[Second Verse]
Parents are fighting
I hear constant screaming
But there’s no point in hiding
‘Cause our walls are so think

She comes in my room
And starts in about Dad
On the inside I’m fuming
On the outside I grin

But then I remember…

[Chorus]
It’s not me it’s You
Without You what can I do?
So I get on my knees and pray
And my frustration is swept away

[Third Verse]
I walk into class
And the whispers begin
Their looks cut me like glass
But I don’t say a word

I sit in my seat
And I stare at the floor
I keep my mouth shut
But I wanna be heard

[Chorus]
But then I remember…
It’s not me it’s You
Without You what can I do?
So I get on my knees and pray
And my insecurity is swept away

[Fourth Verse]
I get off the bus
It’s been a long ride home
I know that thanks to this loss
My chance for college is slim

My dad is out cold
Got the house to myself
The pills are spread on my bed
And I just want to give in

But then I remember…

[Chorus]
It’s not me it’s You
Without You what can I do?
So I get on my knees and pray
And my depression is swept away

God without Your love it’s true
There would be nothing I could do

This is excellent— it communicates what you're feeling very well. Hang in there. I know this stuff sucks, but it'll get easier in time. Just keep faith and keep walking. And keep writing. You'll make it.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."
