The Anger

By , Fairfield, CT
oh, the anger
the rage
the hatred
escaping from its cage

where once there was bliss
and brilliant elation
now only sadness
and dark contemplation

the odium in the air
it seethes in my mind
a life of its own
harsh and unkind

where once there was love
and soft embrace
now only despair
and solemn disgrace

revenge whispers quietly
it writhes in the soul
whispers of loss
the heart blackens to coal

a groping in the dark
with the promise of light
a hope that has brought
nothing but blight

see it now
the sum of spent time
hear it now
words that ring out in rhyme

oh, the anger
the rage
the hatred
escaping from my cage
