Broken Asphalt

falling for you is like
tripping over the same
crack in the sidewalk
you see every day

you never catch yourself
you’re pitching forward before
you even realize
that crack’s still there

But then you come to like
just feeling weightless
for those simple seconds
before you’re down

so drop me back down to that broken asphalt
wings of love just can’t fly
so set me down help me onto that pavement
send me back to gravity, say goodbye

its only after you brush
all of the dirt off when you
even remember
how much it hurts

To be the person who
relies on dreams to fly
you never got more than a
foot off the ground

and that is why you still
crave such a sudden fall
you’ve never felt what it feels
when its real

so drop me back down to that broken asphalt
wings of love just can’t fly
so set me down help me onto that pavement
send me back to gravity, say goodbye

but then life slams you down
back to that slab of broken asphalt
wings of dreams and promises don’t fly
you’re just another person who’s
got to find a way out
but till then you got to make do
with a lie

so drop me back down to that broken asphalt
wings of love just can’t fly
so set me down help me onto that pavement
send me back to gravity, say goodbye
