The Last Kiss

When I looked into his eyes,
I could see that it was the end.
Tears of regret fell down my face
and into the palm of my best friend.

Apologizing with slurred speech;
he held me and didn't let go.
"I love you like a sister,
even when I don't let it show."

Week two went by so quickly
as my fear haunted me every day.
I knew that it wasn't going to work,
but I stayed with him anyway.

"You need someone who will
hold you in their arms forever."
"That person could have been you
if we would have just stayed together."

Because of what happened,
things will never be the same,
but at least he wiped my tears,
making me feel like it wasn't a game.

Time was running out when
he asked for a goodbye.
I didn't know what to do or say,
so I looked at him and cried.

"I promise that I'll call you
tonight when I get home."
It feels like he is forever lost
because now I am alone.

He put his hand upon my face;
his goodbye request so amiss.
I slowly shut my eyes
as he pulled me in for the last kiss.
