I'm dying on another lost summer night
When everything except me seems to be alright
I've heard words like that sung all my young life
But now, I guess, I've got the sight
I'm alone tonight
I'm alone tonight

On a night when I know something's happening
I look out my window like I'm waiting
But it's like everywhere else, there's people existing
Like they've really got something
I'm alone tonight
I'm alone tonight

CHORUS
So, go ahead and go, hit me with the blow
Let it fall soon or let it fall slow
But if you mean it when you say so
You better follow through

I guess I've been where I should not have been
'Cause my head hung so low, my heart fell out and in
To some unspoken pit of sin
Looks like things just got too thin
I'm alone tonight

I'm hungry and I might get hungry again
Does that make me one lost or alike other men
Should I take a chance on my so-called friends
Could I shed the skin, would it be a win
No, I'm alone tonight
I'm alone tonight

BRIDGE
Now, my eyes drift over the rise
Can't keep them on these four walls I'm stuck inside
If I don't take this disguise out now to dry
I fear it won't be lie
I'm alone tonight

CHORUS

I'm no longer sure if it's worth it for me
To invest in the hope for another remedy
Do I want a surprise or to be let be
Whichever makes me free
I'm alone tonight

Well, I'm not gonna live no more on the pleas
I don' wanna sleep, I just wanna dream
So, get off my eyes and let me see
Or cut 'em out, cut me up, I can't be in between

Go ahead and go, hit me with the blow
Let it fall soon or let it fall slow
But if you mean it when you say so
You better follow through
I'm alone tonight

The author's comments:
This came out of those all-too-often summer-night feelings when all that you could think of- problems, concerns, loves, reflections, predictions- seem to come out at the same time, and you want to go out into the night and DO something.
