Princess

I see my baby for the first time
She's the most beautiful thing
My heart is now open
And she's got me hopin'
She doesn't know I love her
and so I tell her

You don't need a prince
To make you a princess
Your daddy's the king
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
God knows what He's gotta do
He knows when it's time for you.

My little girl's growin' up
She is choosin' all of her paths
She's starting to see boys
And playing like they're toys
Guys are wantin to date her
And so I tell her

You don't need a prince
To make you a princess
Your daddy's the king
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
God knows what He's gotta do
He knows when it's time for you

My Cinderella found her prince
She is getting married today
She looks so beautiful
That boy's got his hands full
I feel like she don't need me
but then she tells me

I don't need a prince
To make me a princess
My daddy's the king
I don't worry about a thing
God knows what it's gotta be
I know He's got plans for me

The author's comments:
My dad used to call me his princess, which I suppose in not all that uncommon, but he would follow it up by telling my that he was not the reason that I was a princess. My Heavenly Father, he would tell me, could give me anything I needed, so much more than any earthly prince could. This was inspired by my daddy, it's truely his song, I just put it into words.
