We Chose To Be Heroes

Our story began when we were given a chance
Just two teenagers who didn't have the slightest clue what to do

And for a moment we were on top of the world
But then we came crashing down like shooting stars

'Cause we knew it wouldn't last
But we still tried

'Cause we knew it had to end
But we still fought till our last breath

It felt like coming home
Those moments stolen in between

When we didn't laugh, or cry or smile
Just laced our fingers together and watched as red bathed the world

Our feet knew the rhythm to a song centuries past
Until they didn't anymore, and our hearts died as two strangers' would

Our foreheads touched, yet there was this crease in between
It wasn't much, but our eyes went unseen

We stood shoulder to shoulder
But our luck didn't agree

We wanted a beginning, yet we were given an ending
Was it a happily ever after?

The sun's rays shined upon us, an unsaid blessing,
Too bad we were already burnt

We sang, but instead we heard a scream
We hoped, should we have hoped more truly?

Candles lit our path, still we were cold
The river flowed past us, so we drowned in the secrets left untold

“Once, we were their puppets, even so we broke their hold”
Were we this strong, we could've protected our own

Can we be blamed for praising the illusions?
The mask was never peeled off and the truth remained deceptively white

We were the collectors, the hunters, the predators
Alas, we lie, because we were the collected, the hunted, the prey

I've learned everything I know about song writing from the Score. Still aren't good enough.
