"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift, that's why we call it the Present."

I got home early that day,
An event that was rare,
There was no one in sight,
And my parents weren’t there.
‘Where are they?’ I worried and thought to myself,
‘They’re probably still at work’,
Not anywhere else.

I wanted to run,
Run and not stay,
Instead I’m at home,
‘I’m sure they’re okay’.
I dialed grandma’s cell,
The phone rang and rang,
Asleep I soon fell,
I awoke with a BANG.

“What’s going on?”,
I yelled very loud,
I ran into the yard,
And was happy when I found...
My Mom and my Dad!,
They were okay!,
I was so mad;
They had me worried all day.

“I missed you so much,”
I didn’t know what to do.
“You weren’t at home,
So Where Were You?”

They started to talk with their voices low,
“It’s hard to explain,
But we’re sorry you know.
We were at our friends house,
didn’t you get the note?”
What were they talking about?,
I didn’t get what they wrote.

“No I did not,
I didn’t see what you gave,
You should have called.
I was getting afraid.”
They looked and smiled,

As my lip started to quiver,
“Oh baby don’t cry,
We were just at Anne’s sisters.
Why were you afraid?
Don’t ever be dear,
I know we should have called,
But now we are here.”

So the next time that,
I was home alone,
I smiled at the fact,
I was trusted enough to be on my own.
I didn’t want to call,
I didn’t want to run,
I was fine on my own,
And in fact it’s quite fun.

I’m not afraid anymore,
Which is real good,
No one should be scared,
No one should.

I feel like I can rule the world,
Well maybe if I wasn’t just a little girl.
