I used to know how to swim.
When I was just a year old,
Fresh into the world
I used to know how to swim

I used to know the ocean
Like the back of my hand
The color, so blue and deep
I used to know the ocean

I used to swim and feel at home
Like I was always myself
And knew that, somehow, I fit in.
I used to swim and feel at home.

I don’t know how to swim anymore
Frankly, I forgot everything I knew
And now I’m scared of the water
I forgot how to swim

I used to know the ocean
But the blue color I loved so much
Has changed into a dark, murky hue and
I don’t know the ocean anymore

I used to feel at home when I swam,
But now, I don’t recognize the waves
And I feel alone in this world.
I don’t feel at home anymore;

Everything has changed

And I am lost.

this piece is about being so familiar with something, then watching everything you once knew change or slip away
