From the Moment I Spilled my Rice Krispies

March 5, 2011
From the moment I spilled my Rice Krispies
My eyes started to get misty
Of the box they poured out
Plummeting to the ground
Oh no! Anything but my Rice Krispies!

Reluctantly I scooped them up
With my hands into a paper cup
I scraped them into the garbage supposing
That even though of my beloved cereal I was disposing
Surely Crispix could be enough?

My hands shook with anticipation
My forehead sticky with perspiration
As I withdrew the box, heart pounding, from the shelf
Trying, TRYING to convince myself
I was only doing this out of desperation

But after even one measly bite
I realize that my conscious was right
This was, to be blunt, a waste of good silverware,
For Crispix, never, EVER would compare
To Rice Krispies: My strength, my hope, my might

Again I tasted, again and again
Frosted Flakes, Cheerios, Raisin Bran
But, well, you see, Rice Krispies my dears
Nothing will ever compare to you, I fear.
(At least nothing yet discovered by man)

By now I had tried every cereal on earth (or at least most)
And with no victory of which I could boast
I buried my head in my hands with a hopeless sigh
Letting self pity creep in, crying to myself, “why?”
But my face lit up with a new idea......
To make toast!

In the making of this poem no real cereal was harmed
And if by this breakfast food discrimination you were alarmed
Be aware that these views are the character's only
And do NOT represent mine (or at least wholly)

(Just making sure no one would take up arms.)

A screen adaptation comes out in July

To be shown in my backyard for a buck fifty five*

But due to the graphic nature of this program

And dramatic scenes that will to tears move a grown man

Viewer discretion is advised

*Popcorn not included

I like the ending. Never would have thought to put something like that in there. Not to mention the fact that the warning rhymes!!! Sweeto, my friend. Amazing. XJ
