A man sat alone

Always by himself, silence

Loneliness unquelled

@MysticMusic I very much appreciate the feedback! I'd prefer not to say what I think caused his loneliness, mostly because I don't want to mess with what other's may think have caused it. I am pleased that the feelings of loneliness, sadness, and regret were picked up, however, for that was intended! I'm pleased you enjoyed it!

Well done, you've incorporated one of the most devastating emotions that anyone can feel, but especially the elderly. At first glance, I saw loneliness and sadness, and then regret. In his youth, was he too shy to confess to the one he liked? Or did he lose his beloved ones in a tragedy? It really makes me wonder, about what happened to the old man for him to be all alone. This is an amazing haiku.
