her bones are brittle
like depleted desert sand,
translucent skin shows

-
atrophied muscles
dripping off onto the floor
match her withered heart

-
she is not in there
her body does not belong
to a healthy mind

The author's comments:
This set of haiku was inspired by the struggles of an eating disorder. People, especially girls, watch their bodies waste away in order to fulfill the expectations of society. I hope to have captured the harsh reality many females experience on a daily basis in these haiku.
