Freezing rain pounds the flesh
as oxygen escapes the lungs.
Tiny needles break skin
as the blood starts wearing thin.

Soul dies in the body
spirit vanishes from the earth.
All vision turns to black
life is precious, life we lack.

I used a 6-8-6-7 meter for this haiku.
