Spring Reminiscence
Fleeting dawn blurs the the last stars of the night;
From clefts of cloud trickles drops of mesmerizing light,
With kind-hearted whispering, the season brings
Light-colored blossoms of cherry, quiet and fair,
Braiding dewy twigs and daisies in soft rings
Worn on silken, lustrous and ebony hair.
The woodland fairy, wrapped all in white,
Chanted 'Along with me, thou silent and bright,
I shall bring joy and love, and consolation
To thy heart shaded by cold and senseless void.'
Tears of diamonds hang from her almond eyes, and truthful complexion
Reminds me of the subtle and fruitful youth scarcely enjoyed.
But my soul trembles not for the delight of spring, so jaded
Is my thought that it into the gloom of evening faded.
I stood so numbly, untouched, beholding such magic
That so often provokes the minds of boys with ease. Alone,
Rambling in the ancient forest deep, distant from all tales merry and tragic,
Only to sniff another wild bloom, or gaze upon another star unknown:
‘Another Spring.’

As a Chinese teen knee deep in homework and test prep, I take a moment to enjoy the beautiful spring of my hometown, Nanjing. The cherry blossoms mesmerize all who walk through the street, which had now been turned into a wonder world I only see once a year. But I could only stop and take in such inviting scenery briefly, for I must return to MY world as a student.
