People like you more when you workin' towards somethin'
Not when you have it"

People wonder what is wrong with this world
There are many bad things
Bad things
People die every day
And you take in this information like it has become a norm
A constant
A given
Then when you lose a loved one
Or someone close to you
This concept we call death becomes more apparent
You mourn
You sit in your room at night
You think
Think about the fact that they are no longer a part of this material world
Within a blink of an eye
Never to be seen again
Feeling like it is all gone
Yet, it is only because they are gone
You are no longer able to hug them
Kiss them
Touch them
Smell them
See them
No longer here
But you keep thinking to yourself
Is that the worst part
The worst part is that…
You’re still here

People always speak the words “I’m blessed”
As if it needs to be said
As if the world needs to know
And that is where we all go wrong
We look at blessings like they are celebrations
Like they are something we need to parade around in
But the truth is
You don’t know
You don’t know waking up this morning
Was a blessing
You don’t know being able to breathe in
And out
Is a blessing
You don’t know looking around you seeing your friends standing
Is a blessing
Little did you know
Being able to decide whether to eat or not
Is a blessing
You don’t know
Your greatest blessing is that…
You’re still here

No matter what happens
Bills and taxes
All short-term words
Never lasting long
Not long enough for you to forget that…
You’re still here
The sun rises
It sets
Then darkness arrives
Seemingly long term
Darkness disappears
The sun will rise again
And you will be here to see that happen
I am still here
You are still here
WE are still here
Never forget that
Never forget that…
