My Beloved Country

My dear, beloved country
Although, I was born and raised here,
I am despised as a foreigner; an outsider.
Even though, I was raised on American values of freedom.

My dear, beloved home.
Though, you have been unwelcoming to me,
With your perpetual ignorance,
With your naive hatred,
With your stereotypes,
With your racial slurs,
With your heartless soul,
I still loved you so.

I do take pride as a native
Of the land of free.
Where the birds may spread their wings
In any direction they wish.
Where many countries exist in one.
Where the weight of my ancestors
Speak through my soul.
Where the sea of dreams never cease to flow.
The land of hope, where all things grow.

My beloved country, your progress has been slow.
This place is all I’ve known.
This place is my beloved home.
Though you have not loved me wholeheartedly,
I still loved you so.
