I envy the trees
So sleek and tall
A living piece of poetry
Their roots to hold them in place
their branches shaken by a simple breeze

Trees are stable. Kind.
A safe place for prey
A peace I could only hope to find
Animals resting safely
Calm and wonder, intertwined.

Flowers sprout from the ground
Pink, blue, orange, white
Their smiling face all around
A smiling meadow
This forest does surround

Here, I feel at home
Even when the snow falls
And the trees become a shining chrome
Then it melts and floods
Leaving behind only dirt and stone

Back to the forest’s root
Soon the birds will come
A sounding flute
They return home
Their song acute
