Work
is Work

Work
is Pain

Work
is Discomfort

But

Work
is necessary

Learning to work
is essential
to be successful

Work is a part of life
It’s either

You do it and be successful
Or not
and be stressful

But there is no in-between.

When I was young
I was confused

My parents pushed
And pushed

I worked
And worked
But, with no reward

I didn’t understand,

Why I have to do this?

Not until years later
I finally understood

I didn’t understand
Until dads health
deteriorated

All the Wood I stacked
Gardens I hoed
Weeds I picked
Pain I felt
And sweat I used

It finally clicked, I was being raised
And taught

To live and survive
In the harsh, mean world
That waits to engulf us all

Dad has always said
“I’m gonna get you through high school,
But college is where your life begins”

I now realise he meant
that he is preparing me
To be able to
Fend for myself

I recognise he is
Preparing me to
Have a work ethic
And be able to make a life
For myself and family

He might not be able
To support me through college

But he has prepared me
For the daily grinds
That wait for me after my high school years are over

Work
is Work

Work
is Pain

Work
is Discomfort

But

Work
is necessary
