“The author is you
The sentence is your life”
A tiny little mark
Separating a sentence
Who knew it could mean so much
Your sentence keeps going
Even though you might have wanted the pain and sorrow to end years ago

A semicolon is the girl who was raped by her best friend
Everyone she told said
“You were drunk too”
No still means no whether you’re under the influence or not
Now she has nobody
And it’s easy enough to slit your wrists until you don’t feel emotional pain
Only the worst burning sensation you’ve ever felt
But her mother found her on the night she did
She stopped her while the bright red-tinted razor was in her hand
And she was soaking her wrists in warm bloody water
For some reason, it almost felt refreshing
Like a glass of cold water on a hot summer day
While her heart was pounding out of her chest
Like a cheetah going for the kill
She looked into her mother's dark brown eyes
It was in that moment she realized she finally had someone to trust

A semicolon is the girl who didn’t trust herself to be home alone
Because she was scared she’d swallow all of the pills in the oh so tempting medicine cabinet
But she didn’t because she finally told her parents that she wasn’t “normal”
Even with that horrible buzzing feeling inside of her
And a ginormous lump in her throat
Telling her not to do it
“Momma I love girls not boys”

A semicolon is the boy who couldn’t find the strength to get out of bed in the morning
Voices echoed in his mind
“All that matters is what’s under the pants.”
“You’re not really a boy if you were born a girl.”
Anxiety surged through his body, enough to make him want to throw up
All he wanted was a day at home
Not to go to school and face all of the ruthless, evil bullies
But he went and found friends who really care
Now there are no horrible, suicidal thoughts in his mind
They don’t tell him who he should be any longer

A semicolon is the most beautiful aspect of life
Your life continued;
