Neon Nights

There was a quiet hum of the sign above me

from the sky, there were tears

I looked down, glancing at others running

while I aimed my focus to the lakes below my feet

Constantly rerunning memories that have passed

through the puddles of tears in the streets

I knew she stopped thinking of me, and that was it

her thoughts belonged to someone else

I looked up at the sign, hearing the constant hum

resonating like a heart monitor. I read the sign

illuminating red, saying them aloud,

”Closed.”

Cross my heart, hope to die, to my lover I’d never lie.
