When the sun waves goodbye
And the moon emerges,
I cannot help but gaze
At the mysterious night sky.
With its thousands of twinkling little stars,
Spatter painted against the charcoal-colored canvas.
I cannot help but reminisce
About the times I spent with you.
We would always lie down on the grass
Its viridescent blades tickling our skin,
Our hands interlocked for what we thought would be forever,
Counting all the shining lights.
Each and every night we would do this,
Connecting the dots of the past with the stars,
Attempting to create a future
One that would always involve you and me,
However, those nights did not seem to last.
We were hypnotized
By the black hole of the sky
During those moments, we were timeless.
No one moved a muscle,
We did not even dare to breathe.
It was just you, I, and the sky.
But eventually, dawn would roll around
Breaking with pastel pinks
Bleeding into neon oranges,
Blending into a pure, innocent blue.
The moon would whisper
Its words inaudible,
And the blazing, fiery sun,
Would find its way back.
We were blinded
By its power.
In the darkness,
We failed to see
What was standing right in front of us
The entire time.
One day, these times would just be memories
Until they faded into nothingness.
I wish you told me
That one day you wouldn't be by my side
Leaving me in darkness
With the stars seemingly
Duller than ever before.
Mocking me, reminding me
Of the endless trail of lies, you told me.
Now, I sit alone,
The only other presence
The lies of the nighttime sky.
