I Hope You See This

September 9, 2017
I hope you remember me-
In every piece of Cheesecake you eat-
In every pun you hear-
And in every cashier you meet.
I hope you remember my laugh-
In every old man who cackles-
In every child who snorts-
And in every joke you make.
I hope you remember the way-
I blushed when you looked at me and-
The way my eyes grew big-
Every time you smiled back.
I hope you never forget-
The pieces of myself I gave to you.
I hope you never forget-
The way I encouraged you-
The way I accepted your flaws-
And the way I put you in your place.
I hope you see this poem one day-
And feel a pain of guilt for the way-
You tossed me aside to feel freer-
Despite still being tied down by wrongs.
I hope you see this poem one day-
And learn that I was more than your crush-
I was a poet, a writer, an artist, a friend-
But you never bothered to delve deeper in me.
I hope you see this poem one day-
And feel the slightest bit of regret for-
Not talking to me face to face like a man and-
Leaving me to pick up the shards of my heart.
I hope you read this poem one day-
That's all I have left to say.
I hope you read this poem one day and-
I hope it replays in your nightmares.
I hope you read this poem one day-
And you learn that I was bitter but-
I'm learning to forgive and now-
And I'm trying to forget.
