"She believed she could, so she did."

Losing my breath
Gasping for air
Holding in
As I feel by body crushed
By this invisible weight
Screaming in my ears
The sounds filled with
And more
The monsters crawling all over me
Under my skin
And over my skin
Their claws
Piercing a pain into my heart
My hands fumble
As I raise a blade to the monsters crawling on my arm
As some continue to claw at my heart,
Other creatures scatter from my skin, as the blade slices through the monsters and the surface
A new hurt raging,
Both kinds of pain battling against each other
Monsters scratching faster at my heart
Each time the blade cuts
Both pains racing to my head,
Leaping over one another to hurt my mind first
Soon, the blade's pain overwhelms the other
Washing away the monsters
As they drown through my blood
And a wave of relief comes over
Leaving just me and my blade
Setting aside the creatures for a moment

The author's comments:

through poems it is easier for me to explain how I feel and imagine things, things such as self harm. I find trouble getting the thoughts in my head out, so I enjoy creating imagery through poems of the creatures crawling around.

Be happy, not because everything you see is good, but because you can see the good in everything.

Wow. This is a very powerful poem. I loved the word choice, and the way this poem is constructed. I too feel like poetry is a wonderful way to express things talking just can't. This is fantastic! Great job!
