Gently Used
She looked in the mirror and saw a faint smile
A smile that never truly meant a thing
This smile was forced and used to get through most every situation
This smile meant nothing to her
She would smile to push away her anxiety even though it never worked
She would smile in order to feel pretty even though it never worked
She smiled this gently used smile in order to feel as if she could smile, even though she was always too sad to smile
No one ever noticed this fake smile
No one ever cared
She would smile in the halls and games
She tricked her parents with this smile
She tricked the world with this smile
Finally one day she stopped faking her smile
She just couldn’t smile anymore
She herself had become gently used and she couldn’t do that to her smile
