Beach Scene at Dusk

Last night he found her by the shore, watching the moon
Admire itself in the glistening water.
She turned towards him, and he asks if anything has changed.
The ocean beats out its mournful song; the air is thick
And tastes like tears.
She gives a mortal answer, her bare feet tingling as salt water meets cool air.
What else can she say? The scene is black and white, a snapshot
Of a life. They walk back to the dunes, marking a path
Across the rain-dimpled sand.
Wash it all away, she cries, as the waves hiss over their footprints.
Above, a mother watches from her window. The night hugs her body like satin.
She tried to catch their eye, find some solace in this lonely time.
Her baby cries from another room, and she is gone before she can be found.
