Where I'm From

I am from
The lazy Sunday afternoons
Spent stretched across the sun-stained wood

I am from bare feet
Dancing across emerald green grass
In mid-July

I am from worn book covers
Crumpled pages
And well-loved stories

I am from quiet tip toes
Across creaky steps
I am from small palms
pressed against a cool windowpane
To watch the purple white flashes briefly color
The inky black sky

I am from cool sea breezes
Sand caked feet and burned noses
I am from delighted laughter
Sprints up and down the ocean’s shore
And a million freckles

I am from
Long car rides
Spent creating imaginary worlds
I am from thin sheets
Illuminated from within by a child’s hidden flashlight

I am running through downpour
And slipping through muddy puddles

I am from hours spent stuck on a blank sheet of paper
With a million thing to say
But no words

I am from the good days
And the bad
From successes
And the failures
From tears
Both of joy
and of sadness
I am from a thousand experiences
And a million memories
That will forge the path on which
I will go
