Rumination of a Wristwatch

If it is time you truly seek
Take those eyes away.
I give no more than what I keep--
Move on and live your day.

You schedule this and that at ease,
Adept at keeping track.
20/20 for priorities,
But blind to living: a forlorn fact.

Day after day, hear me ring,
Always needed - who knew?
But don’t forget this one little thing:
I resent being with you.

Yet on and on we go again,
You go about your way,
When done, of course time will tell--
Anew to my dismay.

Listen. It’s not the job I bugbear
But rather its effect:
Ironic how something’s keeper
Can also be its defect.

They say life cannot be given a price
Unless it’s tagged with time,
So I plead you maintain this advice:
Live every moment sublime.

They likewise claim that time is money,
An underlying reason
That obtaining it is visionary,
And stealing it is treason.

But under such assertions,
I am deemed a robber.
Is this justified? I’m a snatcher of life
When all I’ve ever done is offer?

If it is time you truly seek
Take those eyes away.
I give no more than what I keep--
Move on and live your day.
