Because I could not eat the broccoli---
He kindly stood aside---
The plate held but just himself and chicken---
And fries

He saw me eat the chicken, glazed in honey sauce
Garnished with parsley---in a golden crust---
He saw me eat the fries---
He saw me eat the toppings---

I paused and looked at broccoli
A heap upon my plate---
I should try the greens---
So the broccoli, I ate---

My name is Sarah. I am a tenth grader. I wrote this free verse based off of Emily Dickinson's poem "Because I Could Not Stop For Death." I hope you enjoy!
