Mama Told Me
Mama used to tell me
Little babies like you are special.
Little babies like you are worth my love.
Mama used to tell me
To grab Daddy's hand if I was scared.
Mama used to tell me
If I didn't shape up I was sleepin' with the dogs.
Mama used to tell me
I wasn't born a free man,
Since I was just a woman.
Mama never told me
That I was stronger than an earthquake.
Mama didn't tell me
I was a better man
Then most men.
Mama never told me
I had the courage of a lion.
She only used to tell me
I was too small
To understand.
Mama used to tell me
"Don't be shy now, love".
Mama used to tell him
"take care of my precious dove".
Now I tell my mama
I can be my own man.
I can look after my own hand.
She too can be a strong
as a fiery earthquake.
You too can be as strong
as a cobra on streets of Maine.
