Parisian Love

The locks salute to the sun
As the Pont des Arts winks
Like the love of indulgent
Rose words. Paris beckons
Couples to the picturesque allure
Like new lovebirds but love
Is not fully framed by
Materialistic enjoyment, locks
Or rings. The raw child on
The pebbly sidewalk clings to
His mother while dozing underneath
The stars. Their crooked bodies
Sharing a blanket dreaming across
From a wedding banquet, their noses
In the air spoon-fed their share
For the day. Footsteps scurry past
Their encampment, pedestrians believing
Pity does not relieve their poverty. The two
Were never going to be. But they had the
Key to love written across their bodies
Like tattoo gifts from God. No matter how
Odd, they were the epitome of the one
Syllable that changed lives every minute.
The mother and the son. Arms draped
Around the other one, they had only
What they could hold and they held
Each other. Arms holding each other,
Their bodies saying i love you.
