Dramaticizing the Dark

As the darkness outside my window deepens
and the silence grows louder
my heart sees through a tinted lens
ones that seem to shred rationality into pure powder

A man could barge in and we could all die
My entire family can grow sick and they would all die
or what if it doesn’t matter if we die
then i just sit in bed wanting to cry

I cry because it gets dark at night
because the lack of light should surely mean tragedy
But there is no true warrant to my teary strife
It just seems to match the mood tastefully
